Every shot subjects the cue to friction, impact, and handling, all of which gradually wear down the tip and the wood. With proper daily cleaning and periodic maintenance, you can significantly extend your cue’s lifespan and maintain consistent performance. Below is a complete care routine every cue owner should follow.
1. Daily Cleaning
After every session, wipe down the entire cue — especially the shaft — with a clean, soft cotton cloth. This removes chalk dust, skin oils, sweat, and moisture before they settle into the wood grain. A 30-second wipe keeps the shaft smooth and prevents long-term grime buildup.
Pro tip: Wipe while the cue is still at room temperature — oils lift more easily before they cool and set.
2. Periodic Maintenance: Oiling
For ash-wood cues, applying dedicated cue oil is the single most important maintenance step. The oil maintains proper wood humidity, preserves natural elasticity, and prevents warping or cracking.

How to apply

⚠️Less is more. Over-oiling leaves a sticky residue on the surface that reduces the shaft’s responsiveness and attracts dirt. If the wood feels greasy, you’ve used too much.
⚠️Maple cues have a denser grain and generally do not require oiling. If unsure, check with your cue maker before applying any product.
3. Storage
