As we known, the tip is the only part that can come into contact with the main ball. The quality of the head has a significant impact.Choosing the Right Tip is very helpful for improving a player’s billiard skills.
What kinds of tips are there?
- Single-layer tip
It is mainly made of thick cowhide.Due to the differences in the hides of each cow,the quality is entirely dependent on luck, and the stability of the leather surface is insufficient. It is usually used in public cue or membership cue.
- Blue leather tip
The raw material is also thick cowhide, processed with tannic acid and chromium, which turns blue after processing.Hence it is called blue tip.The processed blue tip is relatively soft.Sometimes,to increase the hardness of the tip, pliers are used to squeeze it.Due to the differences in each cow‘s hide, the quality depends entirely on luck, and the stability of the hide head is insufficient. Some people call it fiber tip, which looks more like fibers
- Multi-layer pressed leather tip
This is the leather tip that our Obright Billiard cue factory often uses when manufacturing pool cues.and it’s also the main point I want to share with you.
Since a single-layer tip cannot guarantee the stability of performance, layered tips were developed.layered tip use thin pig skins.Multiple thin pig skins are pressed together to form a leather tip,and some also use thin cow skins.
The advantage of muti-layered leather is that by adjusting the thickness and number of layers, the performance can be stabilized, and it can also achieve diversity(soft, neutral, hard.Softer billiards have a more flexible effect and therefore produce more spiders, but will probably also revert some accuracy. Stiffer tips, on the other hand, provide more control and more directness for sharper shots).Currently, the most commonly used type is multi-layered leather tip.
Well-known brands of billiard cue tip in the market include Riley,JianYing,LP,Tweco,R Beyond,Joss, etc. These brands are widely recognized for their high-quality materials and outstanding performance. However,Style of play, heat level, budget…those factors we also need to consider.
